Sevillanas Fair
The Seville Fair is celebrated across Spain and normally begins around two weeks after Easter. The local town of Pilar De La Horadada is hosting their fair from the 27th April until 1st May.
The fair really is an explosion of colour, music, dancing and an excuse for a party.
The area of the fair is made up of marquees (called casetas); the streets are adorned with lights and decoration to add to the ambiance of the fair.
The casetas really are the main area of the fair; they are set up by local families, clubs, societies, and businesses, supplying food, drink and enjoyment. At the beginning of the fair there is a competition for the best marque and a prize is awarded.
There is a lot to see and do at the fair, with public casetas and a programme of events everyday.
Walking around the area is a delight in itself, with many men, women and children adorning extravagant traditional Sevillana costumes. Very much a Spanish picture postcard.
Each day of the fair there is a parade of the horses and carriages around the courtyard, flamenco dance shows and singers, masterclasses and competions, so a full programme of events.
From the Saturday until the Tuesday, activities are provided for the children, with monitors, between 12hrs and 14hrs and 17hrs and 20hrs.
So for a full weekend of tasting Spanish culture, head along the coast, down to the inviting town of Pilar de la Horadada and let them play host at this spring time fair.
