Torrevieja Carnival

The Carnival of Torrevieja is underway….

On Saturday we saw the presentation of the queens at the International Auditorium of Torrevieja.

This coming Saturday, February 9^th, will be the Drag Queen National Contest, this year, following many requests, it has been confirmed that women can also participate. It will be held in the International Auditorium at 9.30 and is indeed a fun night to be had by everyone.

The following weekend, 16^th February, again at the Auditorium, will be the National Chirigotas contest. Chirigotas are carnival groups of characters who sing humorous lyrics through the streets in the carnival. The contest is judged usually for prizes for the costumes or presentation, the quality of the voices and the wittiness of their lyrics.  The main objective of the Chirigotas in the carnival is to make the audience laugh.

The following day the 17^th there will be the 3^rd edition of the Carnavalera Day. Literally translated a day for those that especially enjoy carnival parties, or parties in general.

The following weekend, Sunday 24^th February, there will be the Grande Parade of the Carnival Contest.  There will be a tour of the participants from the Plaza de María Asunción to Clemente Gosálvez Street.

Other activities that have been organised are at 18.00 hrs on 27^th February, a Carnival Party for those of a mature age and on Friday 1^st March at 17.00 hrs a childrens parade.

The Carnival extravaganza will take place on Saturday March 2, again taking the same route from Plaza de María Asunción to Clemente Gosálvez. It will go through the night into the early hours.

Those who have been on previous years say it is indeed a fantastic evening with so much colour and music with lots to see and lots of entertainment.
